Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Career Development Among Undergraduate Students
Friday, May 07, 2021, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

Attaining a job in a desired career field is a key goal for many young adults. In pursuit of this goal, students will often engage in an exploration process that involves internships, job shadowing, and attending networking events. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, however, many of these opportunities for exploration were lost as in-person activities were cancelled.

This presentation will explore the results of a Fall 2020 study that sampled undergraduate students from a large midwestern university. We will cover the self-reported impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the career development process for them, including career decision self-efficacy, perceived employability, and their ability to engage in proactive career behaviors. Lastly, we will look at attitudes toward virtual opportunities and ways in which students felt their university supported or didn’t support their career development.
