Job Description:

The Director of Career Services is charged with providing comprehensive career education and professional development to undergraduate students/graduate students/alumni in multi-disciplinary based departments, overseeing career/professional development resources for these constituents, developing and conducting workshops on job search techniques and related issues, and providing outreach to employers and external constituents. The director will strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Administrative Duties
1. Direct, oversee, and establish programs, services, policies, procedures, and priorities to ensure the effective functioning of Career Services
2. Provide strategic leadership, planning, goals setting and assessment for Career Services
3. Responsible for supervisory authority of the department including: talent acquisition, professional development, supervision, and evaluation of Career Services staff, including 3.0 FTE direct and 4.0 FTE indirect employees
4. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of quality services across all areas of Career Services
5. Develop and oversee department budget in compliance with institutional and UW System financial policies
6. Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes career services goals and objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, and alignment with the University’s strategic plan.
7. Coordinate the department’s assessment plan, including the development of the annual report and assessment of programs and services
8. Generate additional revenue streams for the department by creating new programs and expanding existing ones
9. Serve as the primary liaison to UW-W at Rock County students and staff and expand Career Services offerings for Rock County students
10. Develop initiatives that assess and utilize new and existing technology to enhance services for students, alumni and employers and increase efficiency for staff.

Career Education & Consultation
1.Advocate for resources for University-wide career services and lead efforts to educate the campus community about the career development needs of students
2.Serve as subject matter expert to students and alumni in multi-disciplinary majors about strategies to design their career/professional development path.
3.Plan and execute in-person and virtual workshops, programs, content, and digital resources to help students and alumni career exploration, branding, networking, interviewing and job & internship search strategies.
4.Create educational virtual activities such as weekly/monthly workshops, informational webinars, panels, and office hours specialized for students/alumni.
5.Collaborate with program directors, faculty, and administrators in multi-disciplinary departments to develop training programs and resources effectively prepare undergraduate and graduate students for employment.
6.Continue and expand departmental services and programs for underrepresented and marginalized students through collaboration with other departments, employers, and workforce organizations.
7.Develop new and innovative methods for coaching undergraduate and graduate students both in-person and virtually.
8.Seek out and maintain current knowledge of trends and issues in career services and higher education, including recruiting and local labor workforce trends, as well as the professional ethics and standards as noted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers

Employer Relations Duties
1.Develops and manages ongoing relationships with companies, agencies and organizations, that leads to employment opportunities (internships and full-time) for a diverse student body.
2.Coordinate the Career Services Employer Sponsorship program, including promotion, expansion, and collaboration with the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement office.
3.Develop employer relations strategy, including target organizations and plans for connecting with them.
4.Coordinate with employer partners to conduct employer focused events, such as annual career fair, employer information sessions, on-campus interviews, panels, etc.
5.Educate employers on best ways to connect with students and on tools available to employers for student interaction and evaluation.
6.Market organizations’ opportunities to interested students based on recruitment needs.
7.Serve on university-wide or regional or national professional association committees to promote relevant career initiatives for the community and for students.

Partnerships & Outreach
1.Develop strategic relationships with key stakeholders (directors, staff, faculty, etc.) to facilitate continuous needs assessment and the effective implementation of professional development for students and alumni.
2.Work with colleagues across the institution to capitalize on university resources to benefit our students and alumni.
3.Initiate and maintain external partnerships with Whitewater alumni through in-person and virtual networking receptions, alumni events, employer visits and institutional-wide activities.
4.Actively participate in organizations (e.g. CCCI, NACE, NCDA, etc.) and professional development activities to enhance programs and activities which align with Career Services’ priorities and the institution’s mission, strategic goals, and objectives
5.Assist with communication efforts for Career Services via e-mail, social media and website.
6.Represent Career Services to all constituents, including but not limited to faculty, staff, students, administrators, University trustees, alumni, employers, other UW System career services directors and colleagues, professional associations, and visiting guests.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications-Master’s Degree from an accredited institution-Five years of progressive administrative management experience in college career services or similar experience in career development in a business or community environment-Successful leadership and/or experience supervising professional staff-Proven fiscal management skills with the ability to successfully manage a departmental budget and make budget decisions that impact staffing, programs, and services-Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work in professional environment

Desired Characteristics:-Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Student Services Administration, Higher Education or related discipline from an accredited institution-Excellent relationship building skills, including the ability to proactively and successfully foster professional relationships with employers, faculty, staff, and students-Possess multicultural awareness and competence-Ability to work in a diverse environment and serve constituents from a variety of backgrounds-Excellent public speaking skills, process improvement, training, and other leadership skills-Knowledge of relevant career services software programs and database systems that support career services functions-Experience with writing and presenting grant proposals

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail-Strong organizational, customer service and problem-solving abilities-Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills-Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
