Job Description:

The Associate Director of Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education will lead both the strategic and operational components of employer engagement. The associate director will develop, enhance and nurture relationships with employing organizations in fields commensurate with the academic and professional goals of Case Western Reserve University students, staff and faculty. This position will provide consistent, accurate and usable data on the recruiting trends and strategies of the university targeted employing organizations and industries, and support students in connecting with employers locally, nationally and globally.

Position Duties

1. Provide strategic planning for employer relations (25%). Create a comprehensive and coordinated approach to employer engagement by partnering with offices across campus involved in corporate alumni relations. Using industry trends, indicators of economic growth, and student interests, establish annual targets for the development of job and internship opportunities in selected industries and geographic areas. Market Case Western Reserve University to employer targets and conduct outreach both in-person and via phone/email, assuring that the service provisions (menu of options)are customized, competitive and consistent with the mission of the university. Given the geographic diversity of target employers, occasional travel will be necessary. 

2. Provide career consulting services to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni on a variety of career topics via one-one appointments, workshops, and presentations (25%). Serve as the content and programming lead for one of eight career interest areas.

3. Manage the overall Employer Relations functions of Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education, which include leading the Employer Experience Committee; overseeing planning and execution of the annual university career fair and other recruiting events. Serve as the lead trainer to all current and existing staff in regards to employer relations and oversee the on-campus recruiting program through supervision of the Employer Experience Manager (20%). 

4. Supervise the Assistant Director of Alumni Career Services, the Employer Experience Manager, and the International Student and Employer Outreach Specialist, all of whom have employee-facing roles and manage programs integral to Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education (15%).

5. Oversee and maintain primary management responsibility for Handshake, the online career management system for Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education, as well as other departments across campus (9%). 

6. Develop regular reports capturing recruiting activity of students to be shared with senior leadership,campus partners and outside sources for rankings, grants, benchmarking, and the like. Additionally, collect benchmarking data from peer institutions as it relates to employer engagement (6%). 

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

University Communication

Daily or frequent contact with all staff members of Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education, especially members of the employer outreach committee, to coordinate support of students, employer outreach and daily office activities. Regular contact with Corporate Relations, Alumni Relations, and the Career Management Office in Weatherhead School of Management to coordinate outreach and engagement of employers and share communications and information pertaining to employers. Frequent contact with faculty Weatherhead School, the School of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences and staff of the university to understand their needs from industry connect them to relevant employers and help us promote opportunities to their students. Frequent contact with students in all disciplines and encompassing undergraduate, graduate and alumni status in order to support them in their career planning efforts, internship and job searches and connecting them with employers of interest

External Communication

Frequent contact with employers and alumni to connect them to students for recruiting and mentoring purposes; frequent contact with members of the business and industry organizations to understand trends and needs, maintain positive community relationships and connect relevant employers to the institution for recruiting purposes.

Supervisory Duties

Supervision of the Assistant Director for Alumni Career Services, Employer Experience Manager, international Student and Employer Engagement Specialist.

Job Requirements:

Required:

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience required in university relations/recruiting, human resources, job-search advising, higher education or related areas.
  • Education/Licensing: Master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel administration, business administration or equivalent required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills, self-motivation, and leadership skills needed.
  • The ability to work in teams.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Experience with creating and facilitating programs.
  • Understanding of corporate and academic environments.
  • Event management skills.8. Familiarity with Handshake or a similar system and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn new software programs quickly required.
  • Qualified to use standardized self-assessment instruments including the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator preferred.
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
