Job Description:

The University of Illinois at Chicago seeks to hire an Executive Director for the Career Center. This position leads the Career Center area, which includes four functional areas: Career Development, Employer Relations, Career Assessment/Evaluation and Student Employment. The position oversees the Career Center area by establishing, implementing, and assessing operations, programs and processes for the campus. Oversees the administration of state and revenue budgets totaling approximately $900,000 dollars. Serves as the main consultant to university administrators on career programs and services and compliance issues.

Job responsibilities:

  • As part of the Student Affairs leadership team, provide direction regarding the administration, development, and implementation of various career development, employer relations, career outcomes measurement and student employment programs and services (i.e. career fairs, educational outreach activities, career advising).
  • Establish strategic goals and objectives for the Career Center area and provide leadership and oversight for all operations and activities.
  • Interpret and implement the standards of best practice in the field for delivery of career related programs and services.
  • Oversee the University’s compliance with appropriate institutional, state, and federal regulations related to career programs and services (i.e. guidelines for on-campus employment and student employment wage plan).
  • Serve as the primary contact for the University with internal and external groups including parents, alumni, and local agencies and organizations for information, resources, and educational efforts related to Career Center programs and services.
  • Oversee the Career Center operational budgets and facilities. Determine priorities for purchases and expenses including operating and capital expenses.
  • Consult with organizational leaders regarding career programs and services and make recommendations for courses of action.
  • Develop campus-wide policies and/or strategies affecting university-wide student programs and services (i.e. measuring of career outcomes, internship guidelines, use of student career management system/database).
  • Direct and manage the senior staff of the unit to ensure that group objectives are met.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

Job qualifications: This position is a full time, academic professional position. Applicants must possess a minimum of a Master's degree in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field. Possess a minimum of eight years' experience in career services including supervisory experience in a student affairs department/area. Must have in-depth understanding of student development theory and practice, strong management and fiscal competency. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population. Effective leadership and management skills. General office environment. Regular travel not expected but may occur occasionally around previously scheduled events. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity and fingering for working with computer key boards.
